TROUT CREEKIN’

Trout Creekin’ is about connecting with a unique landscape, slowing down, and learning the cadence of fishing small streams. It’s trout fishing the way it was meant to be. Here, we’re not head-hunting large fish, instead we are tuned in to the smaller things. Typical approaches during this trip include fishing with dry flies and nymphs while utilizing a variety of different techniques.

From early April through June, our rivers come alive with incredible dry-fly opportunities, featuring hatches like the American Grannom, Hendrickson, March Brown, Sulphur, Brown Drake, and the Hex Hatch. If you’ve been thinking about booking a trip, this is the time to do it—it’s when the magic happens and it doesn’t last long. Outside of this, we utilize searching methods and techniques which provide great opportunities to expand your skills as an angler.

Our guided trips for trout are primarily held in our home waters—the Central SandsWe also guide in other parts of Wisconsin, depending on conditions and what you’re looking to do. Trout Creekin’ trips are perfect for anglers of all abilities, we offer full day and half day walk n’ wade options for 1-2 anglers.

THE CENTRAL SANDS

Lesser known than the streams found in the Driftless Region, the Central Sands are hidden gems. Unlike the Driftless streams, these streams were shaped and formed by the glaciers and are often referred to as the “Ice Age Streams.” They contain a mix of sand, gravel, and large granite boulders left behind by the last retreating glaciers. Meandering through forests, prairie, bottom lands, and farmland, they offer a truly authentic Wisconsin fly-fishing experience.

To be clear, trout fishing in Central Wisconsin isn’t for everyone. These rivers can be hard to fish and present unique challenges that send many anglers retreating to the Driftless streams. However, if you are open to the lessons these rivers teach, they undoubtedly will make you a better angler.
